WHAT IS CAD TO BIM CONVERSION?

Simply put, it is the transformation of a project from a CAD environment into a BIM environment. That is, the transfer of a construction project from simple lines or blocks to a full-fledged 3D model with a diverse range of information, from size to material and other physical properties.

Since today the world has not yet completely switched to BIM technology and is declining in the process of transition, so there is still a need to convert one format to another. This is due to several reasons, one of which is simplified and therefore faster work on the project in CAD programs.

Need of CAD to BIM conversion

Traditional computer programs like AutoCAD used in process of construction are not the best today. BIM-based programs quickly replace CAD apps, which lose a lot to first. Revit, Navisworks, Re-cap and other apps can convert project plans into digital format with much more efficiency. These apps reduce the amount of human effort in favour of the computer.

But not all engineers and companies have integrated BIM for their projects, many still work in CAD programs. Therefore, they need to convert their 2D drawings to 3D in Revit or another BIM-based program for best collaboration and to make the final model. Then, engineers prepare plans, drawings and other needed documentation.

Sometimes it is easier to do plans in CAD and then transform to BIM. This collaboration can greatly speed up the end project from the beginning.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

First, we get a scheme of the construction, dimensions and diameters of pipes and other schematic elements of the project in CAD format. We discuss all needed things and our engineers get to work. In the process, they transfer the elements from the sheet to the 3D model, drawing the system or erecting walls with the desired diameters and dimensions, set the desired parameters and before sending the final result, check in detail.

Therefore, the magic of 3D modelling occurs before our eyes, when what was only on paper becomes an exact digital copy on the screen, and then turns into a real object.
